Clamptek Encyclopedia: Pneumatic Leverage Clamp (CALC series)

We mentioned in the first article (Clamptek Fixture Components 101) that the pneumatic cylinder is a pneumatic clamping device that uses air pressure to generate a clamping force to secure the workpiece. It is often used in light metal-cutting and is mainly used in automated production lines and automated equipment such as pneumatic fixtures and jigs.

How to Choose the Types of Clamptek Pneumatic Clamps?

Pneumatic cylinders are divided into support clamps, leverage clamps, swing clamps, push-pull clamps, etc. due to different operating methods. The selection of types is mainly based on the following to determine the type of pneumatic clamp to be used: the size of the fixture designed by the customer, the position that can be placed in space, and the type and shape of the workpiece.

Introduction of Pneumatic Leverage Clamp:

Pneumatic leverage clamps use air pressure to push the piston rod from top to bottom to generate clamping force in to secure or loosen the workpiece. In the process of manufacturing and processing, the leverage clamp can be used when the workpiece must be clamped from top to bottom instead of rotating and pressing or when it is necessary to bypass a raised obstacle.

The Movement of Pneumatic Leverage Clamps:

Pneumatic leverage clamps utilize the theory of clamping mechanism with lever principle to generate clamping forces through the linear reciprocating motion of the piston rod. When actuated, the gas will enter the clamp and the compressed air will exert pressure on the piston rod causing it to move. Then the force will drive the clamping arm through the fulcrum to clamp down and secure the workpiece to the desired location. Pneumatic leverage clamps can also use magnetic switches or other related controlling devices to achieve automatic controls.

The Features of Clamptek’s Pneumatic Leverage Clamp:

The clamp itself is lightweight.

It fulfills the need for a clean working environment.

In the case of the same bore size, the clamping force of a leverage clamp is greater than a swing clamp.

It’s suitable to use when there are limited spaces during processing, e.g. inside the CNC milling machine.

It’s suitable for light metal cutting and when workpieces require fine precision processing, e.g. mobile phones.

Recommend!! Clamptek's Self-Produced Pneumatic Leverage Clamps – CALC series:

➤ The accessories required by the clamp have already been installed on the clamp, which is convenient for customers to use directly.

➤ The material of the clamp is made of aluminum alloy and carbon steel. It is wear-resistance, and has a longer life cycle and stronger durability.

➤ This series of pneumatic leverage clamp is interchangeable with products of similar specifications currently on the market.

Acting method: double action

Maximum operating pressure: 7 kgf/cm2
Minimum operating pressure: 3 kgf/cm2

The inner diameter of the CALC series leverage clamp has seven sizes: 25, 32, 40, 50, 63, 80, 100 (mm)

There’re two types to choose from for our CALC series:

1. Standard type

2. With magnet induction type (1 or 2 induction switches can be selected. Please let our sales representative know in advance if this type is required).
